The summer wanes, but does your partnership?

Summer months notoriously lack in giving for nonprofits. Read this inspiring letter of encouragement from Founder Jean Elade Eloi—see how HFHF is doing and if it provokes you in any way to spread a little love to Haiti.

WOW!  As I sit in my office in North Carolina’s Research Triangle this morning, my mind goes back to Bainet, replaying the wonderful images I saw while I spent three weeks there during this summer. I witnessed the entire team at work— from conducting a church service, to providing medical care to the people that travel more than 20 miles on foot, to organizing a soccer tournament for eight teams including a traveling team from as far as 80 miles. Yes indeed, the sight was marvelous. The joy was palpable. The team was excited and they executed with flawless excellence.

One of our partners, Todd Darling, was with me and I remember him telling me “Elade, this is great! We just want to stay out of their way as they do all these activities by themselves.” That’s right. HFHF has been coming alongside of them for more than 12 years and we will continue to do so for generations to come. Our collaboration will continue and we will teach them as they have taught us. We know the future of Haiti is in their hands and we hope to continue to let God use us as His hands and feet to impact their lives for the kingdom. As we know, all that we do means nothing if at the end of the day disciples are not made.

As I review my last trip to Haiti, I think of Lusca who passionately described to me the journey some of her patients make to receive access to the basic medical care we provide in the community. She told me people will travel so far, because they know when they get here their respect and dignity will stay intact. They know when they get here that we will do our best to provide  the necessary care. I remember feeling so overwhelmed with joy and a renewed determination to continue partnering with the Haitian people, my people, for generations to come. The unspeakable joy that I felt watching and listening to Lusca added at least 10 years to my life. The opportunity to work alongside these wonderful and magnificent people is amazing.

We have existed for 12 years because you’ve been blessed and shared your blessings with us. I want to thank you for your support and encourage you to continue to do so, especially in the summer months.

As I write this note to you, we are at least two months behind in our payroll in Haiti.

Every year for the last five years, the summer months (May, June, July, August and September) have been a challenge for us and I want to share this challenge with you. Some of you I’ve spoken with have increased your donations to us during this period, but some of you may not be aware of our needs or the impact you can make. You have enabled us to provide jobs to more than 70 people in Haiti, including teachers, a pastor, nurses, and more—our monthly payroll is less than $20,000. Imagine that! To pay more than 70 people, we only need about $20,000 a month.

I am certain that many of you who support us don’t know about the opportunities to continue to impact Haiti, and I am certain that once you read this letter you will take the necessary actions to continue to partner with us.

We encourage you to make monthly contributions, and you can easily do so here.

All that is happening in Haiti and what will continue to happen in Haiti will have your fingerprints, because you have proven to us that you want us to continue with the work. Our future is bright because of your partnership. I send a huge thanks to those that have embarked on the journey to Haiti with me and also a huge thanks to those that have not gone there physically, but have been with us from inception.

We continue to provide education to more than 500 students each year, provide medical care to more than 6000 people per year, and our church is growing with two campuses and more than 250 people attending on Sundays. Our radio station continues to provide the necessary programs to the community—children and adult gospel programming, civic and hygiene and other community-focused programming. All of this is because you have decided to partner with us and become our champions. Like we’ve always said, only God can repay you for what you’ve done for us.

Take care and God bless you,

Jean Elade Eloi
